Follow these tips and you’ll save lots of dollars… and still have the wedding of your dreams.

Pick A Weekday
We’re all aware of savings available on off peak air travel. Well, the same applies to weddings.
The summer months and any Saturday, no matter the month, are the most popular times for weddings. So you can save a considerable sum if you selectchoose a weekday between October and April/May (assuming you’re in the Northern Hemisphere). And remember we’re not just talking about the cost of the reception venue. It’s all the other costs too such as photographer and video cameraman.

We know you don’t want to share your wedding day with another couple especially one you don’t know. But what about asking your ceremony venue if anyone else is getting married on the same day as you. Perhaps you could agree a common theme ans color scheme with the other couple and share the cost of flowers and decorations.

Be Crafty
Lots of people count card-making amongst their hobbies. And some are able to make beautiful and creative cards. Perhaps you have a family member or friend who could make invitations at a fraction of the cost of a professional stationery firm. And of course, they’ll be unique.
Or what about flower arranging? Could they do the table decorations for the reception venue?
And what about favors. Could you make your own?
If there is a good baker in the family could they bake the cake? And don’t forget cup cakes are becoming increasingly popular so that the icing of the cake isn’t such a big challenge.

Use Amateurs
We know that your wedding day is very special and you want it to be truly memorable and the mere idea of using amateurs probably fills you with horror. But please read on. It is not such an outrageous idea as you might think.
Many about to graduate students from college are looking to make some money. They are very talented but it’s the catch 22 situation. They cannot get work without experience but can’t get experience because noone willl give them a job.
Contact your local college and look to view some students’ portfolios. It’s a great way to find a photographer, video cameraman, flower arranger etc.

And if you have a family member of close friend who is used to speaking in public why not ask them if they would be the master of ceremonies for the wedding reception. Hiring a profesional MC can cost many hundreds of dollars so using a friend can save you a lot. Plus it’s much more personal than having a stranger do the introductions to the speeches, cake cutting etc.
